3.3 Conclusion

The sophistication of effective and long-lasting waterproofing solutions now available is bringing the waterproofing industry to a new level of performance and productivity. Contractors can tackle more challenging work, take on more work with the same size team, and reduce labour costs with today’s technology and new solution developments. Project delays caused by climate change can be avoided or significantly reduced.

When owners, designers, and general contractors are concerned about providing environmental friendliness and sustainability, maximum protection with enhanced durability and functionality, and faster turnaround on tighter budgets, solutions are available to meet these demands. These solutions or combinations of a variety of solutions (systems) exist to address various challenges associated with the four elements of waterproofing work for a given construction project in terms of design and material selection, installation, inspection and maintenance, and total cost of ownership. (TCO) contingency.

The industry would do well to move away from the practice of standardization and lean into the practice of customization when it comes to addressing the unique challenges of waterproofing, given that the demands of any building or geographic region are hardly ever alike.
